What is the Dot Mandala Generator?
A free tool that draws mandala-like geometric patterns using nothing but dots, and exports them as PNG or SVG. No sign-up is needed. Everything runs in your browser, and your design is never sent to a server. Use it for laser cutting and printing math art, or for making images for social media.
What you can do
- Stack nine kinds of layers — disc, ring, moon, petals, lotus, rosette, beads, rays and star. A "group" arranges them in a ring, along the four sides or at the four corners, or mirrors them with a circle inversion.
- Choose how dots are laid out — golden-angle spiral (Vogel), concentric rings, radial, spiral, branching, polygon and blue noise. Spacing, size and colour can change smoothly from the centre to the edge.
- Surprise me — one button creates a symmetric mandala. Press it again until you like what you see.
- Fill the gaps — fills the empty parts of your picture with small copies of a mandala, following simple rules. Delete the new group to undo it.
- Export — PNG (image), SVG (vector) and settings (JSON). Set the paper size in pixels, or pick a social-media size such as 1080 × 1080.
- Save and share — your work is saved automatically in this browser. Copy a share link to let someone else open the same picture.
How to use it
- Press "Surprise me" and repeat until you find a picture you like.
- Select a layer in the list on the right and adjust its radius, count, dot spacing and colours. Add more shapes with "+ Add".
- Set the paper size in pixels, then download a PNG or an SVG.
A little maths
The "Vogel" layout is the spiral you see in sunflower seeds: each dot is placed after turning by the golden angle, about 137.5°. A star is written {n/k}: join n points on a circle, skipping k at a time, so {5/2} is the pentagram and {6/2} is the hexagram. A rosette is a ring of equal circles overlapping around a centre, and the petal shapes come from where the circles overlap. You can see the maker's math art at SPIRA SUURA.
FAQ
- Is it free?
- Yes. There is no sign-up or login.
- Can I use the images commercially?
- Yes. The author claims no rights over anything you export. Use it freely, commercially or not.
- Where is my work stored?
- Only in your own browser. Clearing site data erases it, so export the settings (JSON) now and then.
- Does it work on a phone?
- Yes. On narrow screens the controls fold away so the picture stays in view.
